    Nymboi Binderay National Park

Situated 25km north of Dorrigo, Nymboi Binderay National Park has densely forested ranges with a spectacular gorge cut through them by the wild and scenic Nymboida River. You can explore the park for a day or stay a weekend or longer at one of the national park’s camping areas.

Platypus Flat Picnic and Camping Area is a good place to get close to the river’s deep swimming holes and white-water rapids. You may see river turtles, cormorants and if you’re lucky, the elusive platypus the picnic area was named after. Cod Hole Picnic Area is a small but popular camping area with white-water rafters, while Junction Camping Area is a secluded riverside spot with 4WD access only.

For a pleasant and easy way to experience Nymboi Binderay, take the half-day (65km) Moonpar Forest Drive, a circuit drive from Dorrigo through the southern part of the national park.

Three short and easy walking tracks can be reached from Moonpar Forest Drive. Along these walking tracks you will see massive old-growth tallowwoods and brush box which tower over the forest.

Coachwood Track is an 800m circuit (100m barrier free) from Norman Jolly Memorial Grove. Enjoy a picnic and get up close and personal with the 800-year-old giant trees. Red Cedar Track, just east of Platypus Flat, is a 300m circuit through some of the last remaining wild stands of cedar on the Dorrigo Plateau. Tramline Track, 4.5km east of Platypus Flat, is a 800m circuit with some steeper sections. It features an historic logging tramway and other remains of early timber-getting techniques.

The more adventurous can join one of the commercial rafting tours that provide fun and safe white-water adventures on the Nymboida River. Contact the Coffs Coast Visitor Information Centre on 1300 369 070 or email tourism@coffscoast.com.au for details. Only very experienced kayakers should attempt the white-water sections of the river.
